If you’re on the ChexSystems list, it’s important to understand the differences between and features of savings and checking accounts. You’re probably shopping around for a better bank account, and this guide can be a big help. When it comes to finding a good place to put your money, you have lots of options. There are checking accounts, savings accounts, money market accounts and certificate of deposits (CDs). Each one offers different benefits, fits different needs, and has different rules and requirements. When you decide what’s right for you, there are a few things to consider.

- Some accounts can only be set up if you have a minimum deposit. If your account goes below that number, you’ll be charged extra or won’t receive interest.

- On the subject of interest, it’s important to pay attention to how much is paid, and how often you’ll get it. Compare rates in your local area to those from national financial institutions at http://www.bankrate.com.

- Find out about limits on withdrawals. Can you take out your money whenever you choose, or is there a penalty?

- Look for deposit insurance. A sign in the bank will tell you that your money is protected by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Credit union accounts also have protection, but from the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA).

- How easy is putting money in and taking it out? Can you easily get to a bank or ATM, or would you need to get most service online or via phone? Find out if you can make electronic transfers like direct deposits, too.

- If you’re considering getting an account with check writing privileges, you should also think about how many checks you’ll get, the maximum number of checks you can write every month, and any penalties for going over that number. Find out if there’s a maximum or minimum amount you can write a check for, and if there’s a monthly fee for the account. Some banks will also charge you a fee for each checks, or writing more than a certain number every month.

- Look for policies that state there are holds on checks. If you deposit money over a certain amount into your account, there may be a waiting period before you can get to it. There might also be a longer period of waiting if you deposit out of state checks.

- What about overdrafts? If you accidentally write a check for more money than is in your account, you should know what happens. You could link your checking account to a savings account so you’ll be protected. Otherwise, you could face high fees from bounced checks, either written to you or coming from you. Since a bounced check can be bad for your credit, being covered is a good idea.

Keep in mind that Check 21 (the new Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act) lets banks clear checks electronically instead of actually exchanging your paper checks. This means that there’s no requirement to return your original checks with your monthly statement, or when there’s a problem with a check. Instead, substitute checks are created, which are used as legal representations of the originals. However, these aren’t the same as ordinary check images, which aren’t eligible as substitute checks.

It’s always been a good idea to ask for your canceled checks with your statement every month. Now you’ll receive substitute checks each month instead. It usually takes a day or two for banks to process checks the old way. Now, however, electronic processing happens almost instantly. This means that there’s no float time between writing the check and the time that the money’s taken out of your account, increasing the chance that a check will bounce. If you have your employer use direct deposit, putting your paycheck directly into your account, you can deal with the change in float time. In addition to this, the faster clearing time means that it’s harder to stop payment.

Banks that do not use Chexsystems in Arizona available in some bank branches. For instance Desert Schools Federal Credit Union branches do not use chexsystems. This bank uses Equifax instead of chexsystems inside their banking checking systems. So possibility checking accounts in chexsystems is not inside the Equifax systems.

At the branch locations which use Equifax, your credit will determine what type of account you are eligible for. At the branch locations which use ChexSystems, you might try requesting a savings-only account instead as aparently Equifax is used for savings-only account verifications. With a savings account you can use services such as PayPal which use EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) and ACH (Automated Clearing House) transactions. If you learn which branches use which agency.

Please come back at chexsystems.info for more banks do not use chexsystems in Arizona Area and much more in United States .

There has been a lot of confusion between chexsystems and Telecheck. So, let us see the differences between chexsystems and Telecheck generally. For chexsystems, you stay in the file for 5 years. After which negative banking information come off your file, as no longer viewable by the banks.

While with Telecheck, you will remain in the systems definitely untill you actually pay off the outstanding check.
Basically people mix up with these two, Chexsystems and Telecheck.Hopefully this explain a little what is differences between these two.

money-tree-bankWhen a person applies for an account at a bank that uses Chexsystems and is denied, it shows up as an inquiry on your report. Too many inquiries on your report can cause Chexsystems to “flag” your account for suspicious activity. It is very important to know where you can and can not get an approval at prior to applying at a bank.

Too many denials can cause a bank that you might have been able to open an account at originally to deny you for these inquiries. Unfortunately this is a mistake that many people make when they first find out that they are reported to Chexsystems. Once they have been denied by a bank they tend to start applying just anywhere and everywhere only to be denied more.

This blog was created to help consumers who are searching for a second chance checking account avoid being ripped off and scammed when trying to get a bad credit checking account. The banks listed do not use ChexSystems or TeleCheck when opening a new account or they will not hold your ChexSystems listing against you. It also lists alternatives to checking accounts….

Here is more information from WikiAnswers contributors:

I was reported to chex system 2 months ago and I’m able to open a second chance Basic Checking account with Compass Bank. It is only $5/month and I get a Visa check card. Lots of banks are starting to offer these kinds of services, you just need to look around.
It is a very good way to restart your credit history. The other choice is to continue to pay high processing fees to paycheck cashing sites

All banks are linked through the chexsystem as far as I know. If the balance is still owed, you may not find anyone willing to open an account for you until it’s paid off. I believe you will be in Chexsystem for five years, then your name will be removed.

There is hope. What you can do is write Chexsystem a letter stating your story. Depending on circumstances you may not be liable under the Fair Reporting Act.

Well, I just found out that under most state laws a credit union cannot decline anyone that meets their membership requirements. This means that if you have bad credit they cannot decline you, but they can restrict your services. But if you need a savings account and a place to cash a check then they can do it.

Second Chance Checking. Check availibility in your area, some banks do offer this program for those of us that have outstanding items with chex systems.
There are several online companies that provide help in finding a bank after you’ve been reported to ChexSystems.

I’ve been on chexsystems since 2001 and after numberous attempts it seemed hopeless for me to obtain a checking account. Turns out Wells Fargo offers “oppurtunity checking” which is targeted for people whow are on chexsystems, even if you still owe. There is a $12.00 monthly fee, and $2.00 credit if you get direct deposit. I’m so glad finally there is hope for people like me!

There are always loopholes. One is to go ahead and pay the bank what you owe. Then, have the bank send a letter stating this has been paid. Take it with you to the bank where you’d like to open a new account. First, give them your social and see if they go for it. If not, have the letter from your previous bank handy and be ready to put it on the table. Showing you’ve paid this off and walking in with confidence may just land you a new checking account.

Well I work for GuarantyBank in Wisconsin, and I can tell you that legaly nobody is going to open you a checking account if you have an outstanding balance. However many banks (mine included) do offer a get checking program that can help. Also Guaranty Bank is one of the few that will open an account if you have 1 or less Chex system reports, as long as you don’t owe any money. We are in five states so you may be able to open an account at Guaranty Bank. As of 1-11-206 the deal for checking is, free checks for life, no monthly service charge, no min. balance, 25 dollar bonus dor dd. And many more, for the most part if you dont over draw you account it is completely free, and you wont spend a cent.

I live in Indianapolis, IN, I am in chex systems, i opened a bank, account but they won’t give me a debit card until i have paid the previous bank….now that i have paid the bank, they are giving me the run a round about reporting my payment to chex system

99% of banks use Chexsystems. You are stuck in Chexsystems for 5 years from the date the bank put you in their system. We can help you.

I hesitate to answer this one because I don’t want other people to abuse the only chance there is to get a checking account with an actual check book and atm card. After much research, I have found most second chance banks to be prepaid atm cards with monthly maintenance fees. I also found many services that charge for a list of banks that may or may not be up to date as a nonchexsystem bank. I even managed to open an account successfully with Charles Schwab online, they overlooked chexsystem, but the risk department eventually closed my account after reviewing one of my credit bureau reports which showed I had a delinquency, charge off, and collection. However, I am happy to have found that there’s one company that cuts through all the chase with no run around.

Most people find out that they’ve been reported to Chexsystems in the most embarrassing way: they go to a bank to open a new account. Then the branch manager or customer service representative comes back to tell them that there’s a problem that’s preventing them from opening an account: the customer is on file with Chexsystems. You will typically be suggested that you try and work things out and then come back. Although that will be said to you with a smile, it doesn’t make it any less embarrassing.

The better (and more dignified) way is to stay on top of things by ordering your ChexSystems report from the company. You can order the report to learn what information, if any, ChexSystems, Inc. has about you. If you have been denied an account from a bank or credit union, and ChexSystems was used in the decision process, this information will help you understand what contributed to that decision. Once it’s in your possession, review it in the most thorough way possible. It will include the following sections: your name and “consumer identifier”, one or more items of “Reported Information” (this is the bad stuff that is being reported about your banking history!), one or more “Inquiries Initiated by Consumer Action” (these are things you have allegedly done that caused someone to pull your Consumer Report), one or more “Inquiries Not Initiated By Consumer Action” (these are reports pulled by others about you without your direct permission), one or more “Retail Information” items (from other check-writing databases such as SCAN), one ore more “History of Checks Ordered”, and then personal information about you, including your Social Security Number, and Drivers License

What is ChexSystems?

ChexSystems provides deposit account verification services to its financial institution members to aid them in identifying account applicants who may have a history of account mishandling (for example, people whose accounts were overdrawn and then closed by them or by their bank). ChexSystems is also licensed to do business as ChexSystems Collection Agency providing debt collection services to members participating in this service.

Is ChexSystems a credit bureau?

ChexSystems is a consumer-reporting agency governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and other laws. ChexSystems Collection Agency is a debt collector subject to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and other laws. The Federal Trade Commission enforces the FCRA and FDCPA.

How long does the report stay on file?
How do I get it deleted?

Each report submitted to ChexSystems remains on our files for five years, unless the bank or credit union that filed the report requests its removal or ChexSystems becomes obligated to remove it under applicable law. The decision to delete a report is entirely up to each bank or credit union and its individual policies.

I paid the bank. Why wasn’t the report removed?

A reporting member is under no obligation to remove an accurate report of account mishandling due to payment of monies owed. However, if a collection amount is reported, the member is obligated to mark the account as paid.

How can I see what is in my file?

You can order a copy of your report from ChexSystems.

How do I dispute information?

ChexSystems Consumer Relations Department helps people who believe their file contains misinformation. Visit disputes for more information.

Why do I have to give you personal information, like my social security number and drivers license number?

ChexSystems ask for this information to ensure that they make a complete and accurate search and are able to identify all information that may pertain to you.

Why did you tell the bank not to open an account for me?

ChexSystems neither approves nor declines accounts for banks and credit unions. The decision is entirely up to them.

Why wasn’t my ChexSystems report removed when I filed bankruptcy?

A bankruptcy filing only affects the collection of outstanding debts. It does not require the removal of accurate factual information concerning your account.

Why can’t I get a copy of my spouse’s report?

ChexSystems is required by law to deal directly with the individual to whom the information pertains. They strictly adhere to this to protect consumer privacy. To discuss the information with anyone else, ChexSystems must receive a notarized Power of Attorney or specific written instructions, signed by the consumer whose information is being requested, authorizing ChexSystems to disclose the information to the person named in the Power of Attorney.

What does NSF activity mean?

NSF or non-sufficient funds activity refers to overdrafts that occur on an account.

Do I pay ChexSystems or the bank?

It depends. If your report contains a record of an outstanding debt and you have received collection notices from ChexSystems Collection Agency, you pay ChexSystems Collection Agency directly by sending your check or money order to:

ChexSystems
Attn: Consumer Relations
7805 Hudson Road, Suite 100.

In other cases, you pay the bank or credit union directly.

I became interested in ChexSystems a few years ago when a friend became entangled in the ChexSystems web. ChexSystems is a credit reporting agency that reports mishaps with a bank to other banks. After becoming listed in ChexSystems it can take up to five years for the listing to be removed.

I am sure ChexSystems protects banks from fraud however ChexSystems at times prevents folks from being able to open a bank account that made a banking error like leaving a bank account overdrawn for a period of time. Even worse a bank can close an account that is in good standing when a different account at a different bank has been defaulted on and reported to ChexSystems!

In the case of my friend she deposited a large check in to her bank account. The check came back non sufficient funds and my friend did not have available cash to cover the overdraft. The bank closed the account and reported the action to ChexSystems. My friend eventually paid the bank back in full but she was still listed on ChexSystems.

Her paycheck had been direct deposited for years. Once her bank found out about the overdraft they closed her account. It was very embarrassing for her to go to Human Resources at her job and change over to paper checks.

After some searching I found that certain banks offer deposit accounts with a debit card that allow you to direct deposit your payroll or income check and use a debit card to draw the funds and pay bills.

I publish a website that offers practical solutions for consumer credit issues since May 2000. BadCreditInfo.com I feature a debit card that allows direct deposit to a real bank account with no credit check, guaranteed approval, no upfront fee, free direct deposit and you can shop and pay bills online.

The debit card is convenient for shopping and money management and if you consider the gas to drive to a check cashing place the time and energy to do so, plus the check cashing fees this card is a real money saver! Did I mention you can pay bills like utilities, phone, gas and electric online?

This card is not a credit card but it does offer a feature that will allow you to build credit and it reports to a credit bureau! I myself have been through the credit card lifestyle of living beyond my means. I love having a debit card, I spend what I have and that’s it! Also, there are no overdraft fees!

As I stated above I have been Internet publishing for eight years. I am familiar with this card and the competitors products. I am proud to offer Account Now, they have the largest network of ATM and locations to “load” your card, which means deposit funds to your account in bank talk. Account Now does not charge an upfront fee. If you want the card click the link, no money due today. There are many sites that charge up to $100 up front just to get the card.

ChexSystems protects banks from fraud however ChexSystems at times prevents folks from being able to open a bank account that made a banking error like leaving a bank account overdrawn for a period of time. Even worse a bank can close an account that is in good standing, when a different account owned by the same person, at a different bank, has been defaulted on and reported to ChexSystems!
People that can’t open a checking account need an alternative that allows them to be able to bank while listed on ChexSystems, fortunately there are 2nd chance checking accounts.

Second chance checking accounts are useful when ChexSystems stops you from opening a
checking account? Get a second chance checking account with no credit check! It gets even better! If your payroll or income can be direct deposited there is no fee for direct deposit!Second chance checking accounts mean no more standing in line and paying high check cashing fees.

The ChexSystems provides verification services to deposit account to the members of your financial institution to help identify applicants that you may have a history of account mishandling. The service seems useful, and it is for banks and financial institutions. It helps them to be alert for fraud and other abuses. Habitual and those who intentionally write checks must have their criminal activities recorded in ChexSystems. However, not all activities are negative instances of fraud or intentional misuse. Many consumers have written at least one check that has bounced back and if he had closed a checking account in the negative and not pay the negative balance in time, the bank had informed consumers ChexSystems.

Each report submitted to ChexSystems remains on file for five? You, unless the bank or credit union that filed the report with them has been eliminated or ChexSystems becomes obligated to delete the file in accordance with the law . However, if a collection is reported amount is paid, it is obliged to mark the account as paid.

If reporting to ChexSystems sure not to close the checking accounts of any other you may have. Pay all overdraft fees as soon as possible. Make a good personal check in which they are written out. Once you have paid the overdraft fees and satisfied everyone that had received a returned check, then make sure you have an explanation of the material inserted into your ChexSystems file.

Just because you are in ChexSystems, there are still ways to get a checking account in a bank. Sometimes this can be overlooked by the official bank of what may be able to open a new account. There are also many online banks that offer second chance checking accounts to people who have been reported to ChexSystems.
